re:Invention: Blair Bradshaw and Matthew Frederick

Reaves Gallery celebrates their move to Hayes Valley with their inaugural exhibit featuring new bodies of work by principal artists Blair Bradshaw and Matthew Frederick. This exhibition will open on June 6, 2008 and will run through July 7, 2008. There will be an opening reception Friday June 20th from 6-9 p.m.

Bradshaw’s new body of work holds an emphasis in classic Victorian and Modern cultural imagery. Taking the Victorian elegance and the Modern aggressiveness, he re-examines their contrasting relationship. The use of rich bold colors and shining metallics make these images striking and hard to keep your eye from.

Frederick’s paintings are characterized by, a careful balance of structure, cool striking colors, and heavy mood. His compositions are rendered with generous applications of paint and undulating brushstrokes, lending to a compelling emulation of the patterns and sensations inherent in nature. With this current body of work Fredrick takes his color palette in a cooler direction, creating more serene atmospheres.

Gallery owner, Sharon Reaves,is excited to welcome everyone to their new location, saying, ”It feels like we moved from a dorm room and have our first grown up space. The past year on Market Street has been amazing but we are excited to invite everyone to our new permanent location in Hayes Valley and I am so proud to present a space for the artists and collectors that is worthy of the quality of our collection”

An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, June 20th, from 6 to 9 p.m. The artists will be present to meet and discuss their work with the public. The receptionis free and open to all.
