101 ABSTRACT & NON-FIGURATIVE ARTWORKS: Reaves Named Juror
Art Has No Borders are now accepting entries for international open-call art competitions, culminating in a series of interactive and multi-touch iArtBooks that will showcase artworks that explore various themes. The digital publications will be available to download and purchase to iPad or Mac from iBooks.
Our second iBook competition theme to close and to be published is '101 Abstract & Non-Figurative Artworks'. It is open to all artists working in any media, worldwide. All artworks will be accepted as long as they can be documented in a high resolution photograph and are linked to the theme of the ‘Abstract & Non-figurative’. Since the first decades of the 20th century when Kandinsky and others pioneered abstract art it has enjoyed a prominent place in modern and post-modern art. The term "abstract art" is a very broad umbrella sheltering a wide variety of art; we use the term here to include artwork which takes departure from reality in depiction of imagery and focuses on the form, color and line in its own right, to that which is totally and partially abstracted or non-figurative expressing few visible connections to visual references. Submissions are encouraged in all mediums ranging from traditional painting, drawing, print making to contemporary sculpture, installation and conceptual work.
The selectors and prizes for the 'Abstract & Non-Figurative' theme are: James Bacchi, Gallerist & Co-Owner of Arthaus, San Francisco
James Bacchi, alongside Annette Schutz, opened ArtHaus in San Francisco’s historic Nob Hill in 1996.
