New York, NY - September 30, 2009 - On October 15th, the High Line Open Studios Chelsea 09 (http://highlineopenstudios09.org/) puts a new edge to the Chelsea neighborhood with an open studio tour spanning the length of the new High Line. The recent opening of the High Line is redefining and revitalizing the Chelsea art scene.
High Line Open Studios (High Line 09) offers art enthusiasts, collectors, New Yorkers and visitors the opportunity to experience one of New York’s hottest new public spaces together with access to the private creative spaces of some of the best artists in the world.
High Line 09 is About Art Exposure
The High Line 09 (HL 09) is all about providing direct exposure to the art scene in and around Chelsea. The open-air spirit of the High Line inspires an open-access approach to the art that borders it. During HL 09, visitors are invited into the artist's studio where they can talk to artists whose work they normally only see on gallery walls. The event provides a unique opportunity to see artists in their creative environment, including works in progress. This year's event is free for both artists and visitors.
HL 09 includes Chelsea galleries, artist studios, non-traditional exhibition spaces such as businesses offering to host an artist, and 'itinerate artists' looking for a home being housed within The Drop exhibition space through a partnership between arts organizations. Everywhere an artist is invited to exhibit, is where the public can see them.
Technology Tools for Accessing Art
HL 09’s new interactive digital Art Tour Map allows visitors to scroll through locations, artist names and mediums, and images of the artwork so they can plan their tour.
