About the New York Series
For the last couple of years I found myself walking down the street, sitting in the subway and wishing I could take a portrait of everyone I see. Basically I never wanted to stop recording, just keep capturing everyone around me without asking and preferably without them even noticing me. Of course that is a hard thing to do and although I developed some techniques to be a fly on the wall, a lot of people do see me and look at the camera at some point of our encounter. At that point it becomes a different feeling than being a voyeur, but just as exciting. I also love to be behind people and photograph their back, show their character and style without them knowing I am there and seeing their face. I believe a lot of times they actually do know I am there and they can feel me without seeing me. (Rainer Hosch)
